You live there. You work there. You see some of those places every day. Yet sometimes it's only when those sites are photographed or shot in such a spectacular way that you realize just how beautiful your country, region, city or village really is. Enjoy Televisión de Galicia's (TVG) promotional video, which you can also view on the website of CIRCOM (European Association of Regional Television).
You won't find a place like Caión anywhere in Spain—or the world. Get to know this extraordinary peninsula situated in an area of exceptional marine and landscape value.

Biting ants and other mardi gras delicacies from Galicia
Carnival in Galicia
Carnival in Viana do Bolo |
Wouldn't you just love to be here in Galicia, enjoying one of our best celebrations of the year: the Carnival or Entroido, as we call it. Celebrations have been going on for some weeks now and will end officially this coming Wednesday, February 22nd with the burial of the sardine. This festival is just one more reason to invest in Galicia!
Some of my favorite places to enjoy the Carnival (besides Caión of course) are Manzaneda (picture on the left), Viana do Bolo (photo on the right), Laza, Xinzo and Verín.
I came across a page that shares some very interesting information "...about biting ants, torched hay, men in lingerie and ample amounts of cow bell." Just click on the image below to visit it.

Documentary Heritage
![]() |
Minutes of the Laracha Town Council meeting held on January 5, 1932 |
In Galicia, where people are so attached to the land, inheritance is important. By inheritance, however, we can refer literally to what property our ancestors have handed down to our family through generations, but also to a historical, cultural and artistic heritage and even to a documentary heritage.
I think this is how I should refer to all those family documents and mementos that have been handed down to me, such as land deeds, letters, photographs and, curiously enough, the minutes of a council meeting in A Laracha signed on January 5, 1932 by, among others, my maternal and paternal grandfathers, both town council members during the Second Spanish Republic. This document is part of the treasure of information on our family tree.
It's such hard work organizing and preserving all these documents, that sometimes it seems it would provide at least a part-time job for a professional archivist; in fact it's sometimes tougher than looking after the land property.

Monuments
This small fishing village can also boast of its monuments, such as the 16th c. Augustine convent located in the main square, of which only the church remains intact. In the same square is the Manor house of Bermúdez de Castro, also from the 16th c. and finally, the shrine of Our Lady of Miracles, which pilgrims visit every year between the 6th and 9th of September.
